Hole Rush is a hole .io game set in a bright little city seen from above. You are a round hole in the ground. Glide along the streets and anything smaller than you tips over the edge and drops in: traffic cones, people, benches and lamp posts first, then trees, kiosks and cars, and once you are big enough buses, houses, apartment blocks and finally whole towers. Every thing you swallow is worth points and makes your hole grow a little wider, and the camera pulls back as you grow so you always see what you can eat next. A thing only falls in when its footprint fits through the opening, so a bus lying across a small hole just wobbles on the rim until you are big enough for it.

Classic mode is a two-minute race against seven computer holes on a fresh city map every time. Holes eat holes too: catch a rival that is clearly smaller than you and you swallow it along with half of its points, while it pops up somewhere else a few seconds later. Steer clear of anyone bigger. When the clock runs out the biggest hole wins. The bots come in easy, normal and hard. They hunt for the richest spots, run from bigger holes and chase smaller ones, so you have to plan your route through the city.

Online battle puts up to eight real players in one city, with bots filling any empty places, and the host can start as soon as two players are in. For a calmer challenge, Levels mode has 30 hand-tuned cities that you have to eat 100 percent clean before the timer runs out, starting with a small park and ending with crowded downtown blocks. Wins, high scores and cleared levels unlock 12 hole skins, from Lava and Galaxy to Rainbow and Royal, and your best classic score, highest level and online wins go on the TapNPlay leaderboards.

How to play

  1. Drag anywhere on the screen to steer your hole like a joystick, or move the mouse, or use WASD, the arrow keys or a gamepad.
  2. Roll over things that are smaller than your hole and they fall in. Start with cones, people and benches, then move up to cars, buses, houses and towers.
  3. Swallow rival holes that are clearly smaller than you, and keep away from holes that are bigger than you.
  4. In Classic and Online the biggest hole after two minutes wins. In Levels, eat 100 percent of the city before the time runs out.

FAQ

What can my hole swallow?

Anything whose footprint fits through your hole. Small things like cones, people and benches fit at the start; cars, buses, houses and towers need a bigger hole. If something is too big it only wobbles at the edge, so eat smaller things first to grow.

Can I swallow other players?

Yes. A hole that is clearly bigger than another one swallows it when it moves over it and takes half of its points. Holes of about the same size can't eat each other. A swallowed hole comes back a few seconds later somewhere else with part of its score, and it is protected for a moment.

How does online play work?

Online battle matches you with up to seven other players in the same city. The host can start as soon as two people are in, or the match starts by itself after a short wait, and bots fill the empty places. Every match lasts two minutes and the biggest hole wins.
